A heavy rigid vehicle is a ‘rigid’ truck or bus, which means that it exists as one section and does not normally tow a trailer. The rigidity of a vehicle affects its turning capability and overall manoeuvrability. A heavy rigid vehicle is a rigid vehicle that weighs more than 8 tonnes and has three or more wheel axles. If an HR vehicle must tow a trailer, the trailer cannot weigh more than 9 tonnes.
